North American Rockwell first introduced the sleek looking series 112 in 1971 (the prototype
first flew in december, 1970). . There was to have been a fixed gear variety known as the model
111 but this was never pursued. The basic design then went through a series of iterations culminating in the Alpine Commander. A further updated model 114 was also built by purpose-founded Commander Aircraft Company and named Gran Turismo Commander. Production of refined versions of this latter machine was still under way into the 1990s. This model 112 was seen atEl Paso Airport in 1979.
